 EVALUATION

Understanding the ideology around Roger Deakins has taken a lot of research. To begin with, I needed to think about the idea and what I  love speaking about. I always enjoy the visual element of the film spectrum so I knew I wanted to go into that aspect of research. One of my first initial ideas was to analyse the specific trademarks that directors have. Such as Quentin Tarantino's use of gore and Jordans Peele use of actor race. 

I felt like this could be a good starting point for me to talk about as I could research a lot and speak about many things. However, I then changed my idea because I felt like I would really go off tracks with the question. Instead, I changed my idea to someone specifically because I felt like I was able to branch off them specifically and talk about it in more detail. My question evolved more and more into Cinematography and someone within that role. Thinking of an idea was incredibly difficult however I felt like I enabled myself to give enough time to let it change and work out. It got to the point where It ended up with ''The use of Cinematography by Roger Deakins and how his visual storytelling is so iconic.''.

I then began with research, although I lacked resources and I believe I would've done a lot more with the essay if I was able to get books. The research itself really helped me out. There are many youtube videos out there that analyses the use of Roger Deakins. This allowed me to see his visual ideology but also other peoples opinions that I could mould into my essay and talk about. I analysed the films that I would speak about and even had to watch Kundun as I wanted to really delve into the research. 

Because I was not doing a question I felt it was not necessary to have a survey. This definitely took some thinking however I did not know how it would benefit me for my essay. In order to gain more research, I also analysed films and reviewed them. Although this would not really help me out in the essay, it helped me review the uses and techniques that Deakins used. 

Concluding the research I believed it helped me out discover more about Deakins, especially the Youtube videos. 

When it came to writing the essay I actually thoroughly enjoyed writing about it. I spoke about Deakins relationships with certain directors and how that made in distinctive and also a slight insight into his past and how he started with documentaries. In terms of the actual production of the essay, the first draft was really enjoyable to complete. I believed I had planned really well and executed the first draft to a good level. When I received my feedback i definitely agreed with what was said, I had really introduced the essay thoroughly but it was way too long, I snipped it down and i believed it seemed less long-winded. 

Completing this unit, has helped me to further develop my writing skills and researching into essays and it will definitely help me in university, my capabilities have been extended when it comes to adapting and altering my work.

To conclude, I believed that I had written a good essay that I enjoyed writing about. I wish I could've researched more however I worked well with what I had and i believe i have utilised my research to the best of my ability.
